World Water Day

Today is World Water Day

According to Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, it would cost about $33 billion to get clean water to everyone who needs it for drinking and sanitation.

Interestingly, this is about half the amount of money that is spent on bottled water every year.

That is interesting. I wonder if bottled water is in fact safer and healthier for us to consume. My aunt went to a convention that talked about bottled water versus tap water and how bottled water may actually not be as safe as we presume it to be. In fact, the convention shed light on the stringent rules and regulations that are in place for tap water. What do you think?

I dont think it is significantly cheaper, but I think that question misses a greater issue. Bottled water isn't just expensive because of the cost of "filtering" it, but because you have to package it in 16 ounce bottles, and then package those 16 oz bottles in a 6 pack.

Buy a Brita and carry a Nalgene and stop producing unnecessary waste.
